Resolve to Row

Nucleo Fitness I’m not one to make a New Year’s resolution. Too many people flop and deflate after over drinking and over indulging over the holidays, myself included! It’s not a good idea to put all your eggs in one January basket and expect to make attainable and consistent results. Instead, I opt to pause on New Years eve and instead of a resolution, I subscribe to a single word- one word that will carry me through the new year, something that will inspire me not only on long runs, difficult workouts, but also for work, family and health! Kinda like a New Year’s Pantone colour, something that pops into every facet of your life, and motivates at every turn. My word this year is COMMIT.

Commit is not a word that gets thrown around with wild abandon. It’s a tough, serious word. You can’t back out, to commit to something takes courage. You’re pledging yourself to do something, but more importantly, you’re promising yourself to the process. No one gets up and suddenly runs a marathon, things take time, training and COMMITMENT! Boom, there it is again!

With that word now reverberating into every portal of my life, it’s time to put it in motion. With that, instead of dilly-dallying around and waiting til the last moment, I seized the moment and signed up for the MEC race series, 7 runs to see me thru the year! While I do run outside all year long (f- that treadmill noise!) I’m always game on to go indoors- weather can be unpredictable so a safe haven that allows me to continue training is always a safe bet. I recently discovered rowing (thanks House of Cards) and checked out the fabulous Núcleo Pilates and Rowing.

Rowing is a unique workout that not only burns a ton of calories, but also supports runners and cyclists- the movements in rowing help sustain your cardio- particularly important in winter months when fitness levels can tank off. Núcleo doubles down on this benefit by incorporating a pilates component into the workout. Núcleo literally translates to core, and that’s exactly what’s going to be burning about halfway thru the workout! Core is an often neglected but uber important muscle group for runners. By bridging these two workouts together, you’re enabling yourself to keep on track during the hard times, setting the tone for spring training.
